Treatment for Severe Pancreatitis

  • Hospitalization

  • IV fluids

IV fluids help to prevent dehydration and to flush out toxins from the body.

  • Pain Medication

Intravenous pain medication, such as morphine, may be necessary for severe pain.

  • Antibiotics

Antibiotics may be given to prevent infection.

  • Surgery

Surgery may be necessary to remove the gallbladder or to drain a pancreatic abscess.
