Cryosurgery in Bhubaneswar

One gynaecological procedure that involves freezing a portion of the cervix is called Cervical Cryosurgery, or Cryotherapy. It is most commonly performed to remove abnormal cervical cells (precancerous cells) that exhibit alterations that could result in cancer. Cryosurgery in Bhubaneswar uses liquid nitrogen and other extremely cold chemicals to eliminate any abnormal tissue or cells in a woman's cervix.

Women with the following symptoms can benefit from Cervical Cryotherapy:

  • Abnormal cells in the cervix have the potential to develop into cancer, such as cervical carcinoma in situ (also known as stage 0 cancer) and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)
  • Uterine bleeding that is not regular

FAQ's

Cervical Cryotherapy is recommended by a medical professional if you have:

  • Abnormal or unusual bleeding from your cervix
  • Inflammation of your cervix, or cervicitis

  • Genital warts

  • Abnormal cells on your cervix that, like cervical dysplasia, can develop into cervical cancer

An extensive evaluation is performed by a healthcare professional before Cryosurgery. This covers both a physical examination and a thorough evaluation of medical history. To assess the severity of the disease, essential diagnostic procedures, including Pap smears and HPV tests, may be carried out. The procedure's advantages, hazards, and anticipated results are explained to the patients. Consent is acquired, and any queries or concerns are addressed. Pre-operative instructions, including guidelines for fasting and diet, are also given.

Cervical Cryotherapy is performed on an outpatient basis in the doctor's clinic or procedure room under local anaesthesia. It takes 20 minutes to finish the procedure.

Cervical Cryotherapy steps include:

  • On an examination table, you will be asked to lie with your feet in stirrups.

  • To view the cervix, your doctor will place a speculum in the vagina.

  • Once the abnormal cervical tissue is identified, a cryoprobe—a tool for freezing abnormal tissue—is introduced into the vagina.

  • To cool the damaged area, liquid nitrogen or compressed argon gas that has been cooled to about -50 degrees Celsius will be injected through the cryoprobe.

  • The cryoprobe freezes the superficially aberrant cervical tissue when it is introduced to the skin.

  • The cryoprobe will be applied to the affected area for three minutes.

  • The cervix will be given time to fully cool down.

  • Treatment is repeated after 3 minutes.

Immediately following the treatment, you may experience dizziness. To avoid collapsing, lie down flat on the examination table. It should take a few minutes for this sensation to subside.

  • Almost all of your regular activities can be resumed immediately following surgery.

  • You will have a lot of watery discharge for two to three weeks following the procedure as a result of the dead cervical tissue shedding (sloughing).

  • It could be necessary for you to refrain from having sex and using tampons for a few weeks.

  • Refrain from touching the vaginal area. This may result in serious infections in the tubes and uterus.

In the first month following the surgery, a thick and frequently odorous discharge is common following Cervical Cryotherapy. This discharge happens as dead tissue cells flush through the vagina. For elderly and obese women, the Cryosurgical recovery process could be the most unpleasant and least enjoyable.

Being noninvasive, Cryosurgery has a lower risk of complications, bleeding, and pain. In comparison to other surgical procedures, it is also a bit cheaper and less time-consuming.

Generally, this procedure is beneficial if abnormal cells are present on the surface of the cervix. Cryotherapy is not the ideal course of action if the cells are widespread, extend towards your uterus, or penetrate multiple layers of tissue.

Generally speaking, Cryoablation is safe and shouldn't interfere with your future capacity to conceive. However, it might result in:

  • Pain or cramps
  • Vaginal discharge

  • Fainting or experiencing vertigo (usually just after)

  • Pelvic infection or a relapse of an already-existing infection

  • Cervical stenosis is a disorder that causes scarring on the cervix

  • Your cervix may sustain freeze burns

In some cases, healthcare professionals may be hesitant to perform this procedure due to the following:

  • It cannot be used to test the tissue once it has been removed because the tissue has been destroyed.
  • It is not precise, which increases the risk of missing cancerous cells.

  • It cannot remove severe cervical dysplasia (CIN 3), which increases the risk of cancer.

  • It cannot penetrate multiple layers of tissues.

Cervical cryosurgery is 90% effective in most cases, and the abnormal cells typically disappear. If the dysplastic cells persist, you might require more therapy to get rid of the abnormal cells.

If you experience any of the following symptoms after Cervical Cryotherapy, you should contact your doctor right away. These signs may indicate an infection, such as:

  • A fever that reaches 100.4 F (38 C) or higher
  • Severe vaginal bleeding

  • Severe pain in the lower abdomen

  • Odorous vaginal discharge
