6 Health Complications Every Woman Must Be Aware of

It is an accepted fact that a woman is the backbone of every family. How often has it happened that our mothers fall ill and the whole house becomes a complete mess? Women’s health-related issues must be addressed quickly. A healthy woman ensures that the family stays healthy.

Recent studies have shown that women face twice the amount of health issues faced by men and most of the issues require special consideration. Menstruation, contraception, childbirth, breast cancer, and menopause are some of the health issues that can pose serious threats if left unattended. Staying aware of common health issues can help in early diagnosis and treatment.

Here are the few common health issues related to women which need immediate attention-

Endometriosis

Symptoms like a painful menstrual period, pain with intercourse, and pain during ovulation indicate the health condition in women called Endometriosis. An estimated amount of 15% of women suffers from this condition globally. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows on the outside of the uterus. This overgrown tissue outside the uterus cannot be shed as a part of the normal monthly cycle or periods. This building up of tissue cause scar tissue to develop around the fallopian tubes or ovaries, resulting in severe pain and infertility.

HPV and Abnormal Pap Smear

Human Papillomavirus(HPV) causes warts that appear on the genitals and anus of women. This virus is spread by sexual contact and infects the cervix which results in abnormal pap smears. There a currently 20 million women infected with HPV and nearly 6 million new cases come up each year. There may be instances where there won’t be any visible genital warts and these types of HPV are called subclinical. Subclinical Hpv is discovered when women have a pap smear with abnormal results.

Fibroids

Fibroids are the most common cause of an enlarged uterus in women who are not pregnant. These fibroids are growths of smooth muscle and fibrous connective tissue which tends to grow to the size of a grapefruit. In most cases, women experience no symptoms of fibroids until the doctor diagnoses it during a pelvic examination. Fibroids can be removed by a procedure called myomectomy which enables the woman to successfully carry a pregnancy.

Breast Health

The most important aspect of women’s health pertains to breast health. Breast Cancer is no longer a hidden disease, people now the risk factors associated with it. However, with the recent advancements in medical science breast cancer can be cured if diagnosed in the early stages.

Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial vaginal infections are caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina. An extensive overgrowth of bacteria can cause itching, pain during intercourse, and a runny foul-smelling discharge. These bacteria are sexually transmitted during intercourse if the male partner has a urethral infection. However, a large intake of vitamin B can clear up the bacteria in the vagina.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

It is an infection of the uterus, ovaries, or fallopian tubes caused by bacteria growth. PID usually occurs when an infection is not treated for a long period of time. Pain in the lower abdominal area, pain or bleeding during intercourse, fever, and unusual discharge from the vagina are a few of the common symptoms of PID. Serious conditions of PID can cause damage to the fallopian tubes causing sterility.
