The process of retraction of the uterus is known as a hysterectomy. It may also include the removal of the cervix, ovaries, Fallopian tubes, and other surrounding structures. A hysterectomy, which is often performed by a gynaecologist, can be total or partial.
Reasons of the surgery
This operation may be performed for a variety of reasons, including,
Uterine fibroids causing pain, bleeding, or other issues
Uterine prolapse occurs when the uterus slides from its normal place into the vaginal canal.
Uterine, cervix, or ovarian cancer
Endometriosis
Vaginal bleeding that isn't normal
Pelvic discomfort that persists
Adenomyosis, or uterine thickening
Noncancerous hysterectomy is often considered only when all other therapeutic options have been exhausted.
Types of the surgery
A surgeon while doing hysterectomy surgery in Begur, Bangalore may choose to remove all or part of the uterus depending on the cause for the hysterectomy. Because patients and health care providers may use these terminology interchangeably, it is critical to clarify whether the cervix and/or ovaries are removed,
The upper section of the uterus is removed during a supracervical or subtotal hysterectomy, leaving the cervix intact.
The entire uterus and cervix are removed during a total hysterectomy.
The entire uterus, tissue on the sides of the uterus, the cervix, and the top section of the vagina are removed during a radical hysterectomy. In most cases, radical hysterectomy is performed only when cancer is present.
The surgeon can either remove the ovaries (a technique known as oophorectomy) or leave them in place. The technique of removing the tubes is known as salpingectomy. The entire uterus, both tubes, and both ovaries are removed during a hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy-oophorectomy.
Treatment Procedure
Surgeons handle hysterectomy differently depending on the surgeon's experience, the cause for the hysterectomy, and the patient's overall health. The hysterectomy procedure will influence healing time and the type of scar that remains after the operation.
There are two ways to do surgery: standard or open surgery and minimally invasive surgery (MIP).
Hysterectomy by open surgery
An abdominal hysterectomy is an open surgical procedure. This is the most prevalent method of hysterectomy, accounting for around 54% of all benign illnesses.
An abdominal hysterectomy is performed by making a 5- to 7-inch incision across the belly, either up and down or side to side. The uterus is then removed through this incision by the surgeon.
A person normally spends 2-3 days in the clinic after having an abdominal hysterectomy. After healing, there is also a visible scar at the site of the incision.
Hysterectomy with MIP
There are many methods for performing a MIP hysterectomy,
Hysterectomy vaginal
Through this incision, the surgeon makes cuts in the vagina and removes the uterus. The incision is closed, and there is no visible scar.
Hysterectomy through laparoscopy
This surgery is performed with the help of a laparoscope, which is a tube with a lighted camera and surgical tools inserted through numerous small cuts in the abdomen or, in the event of a single site laparoscopic treatment, one small cut in the belly button. The hysterectomy is performed from outside the body, with the surgeon watching the procedure on a video screen.
Vaginal hysterectomy with laparoscopic assistance
The surgeon uses laparoscopic equipment in the abdomen to help remove the uterus through a vaginal incision.
Robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy
This treatment is similar to a laparoscopic hysterectomy, but the surgeon uses a sophisticated robotic system of surgical equipment from outside the body to control the procedure. The surgeon can use normal wrist movements and view the hysterectomy on a three-dimensional screen thanks to advanced technology.
