Treadmill Test (TMT)    

The Treadmill Test (TMT) is an Exercise Test or Stress Test that evaluates your heart’s response during any physical activities. It can monitor the heart’s electrical activity, blood pressure, and heart rate while you walk on the treadmill. This non-invasive procedure helps cardiologists diagnose coronary artery disease. They can also evaluate your exercise tolerance and assess your overall cardiac function - how well your heart works when it is working hard and beating fast. Before the test, you should not smoke, drink, or eat anything for at least 3 hours. Discuss your medication routine with the doctor to know if any of them need to be discontinued. They will instruct you on how to walk on the treadmill. Your BP and ECG will be monitored during this procedure. This test ends either when your ECG shows abnormalities or when you are tired. If the procedure is not complete, you will be asked to rest for 4 minutes, and your BP and ECG will be tested again. 

TMT does not take more than 30 minutes to complete. You may feel dizzy, experience breathing difficulties, or have an abnormal heartbeat after the procedure. However, there is no need to panic, as it resolves after a while. You will receive the reports 15 minutes after the entire procedure.

Holter Monitoring

Holter Monitoring test is used to monitor your heart’s rhythm constantly, typically throughout 24 to 48 hours. This advanced, non-invasive test involves wearing a small, portable device called a Holter monitor. Electrodes will be placed on your chest with a gel. They are connected to several wires or leads, which are attached to the monitor. You can also wear a small pouch around your neck to hold the monitor. You will be asked to keep the monitor as close to your body as possible to ensure accurate reading. In case the electrodes fall off or get loose, you need to reattach them. This monitoring usually takes place during your normal daily activities and sleep. It records your heart's electrical activity, capturing any irregularities or abnormalities in heart rhythm. You must not bathe, shower, or swim during this phase.
