Since ancient times, exclusive breastfeeding for the newborn for a minimum of six months has been emphasized as it is an optimum source of nutrients as well as antibodies that can improve the immunity of the baby, sometimes lasting lifelong. It also lays the foundation for somatic and psychological bonding between mother and child. We live in a world of give and take – one where every deed is transactional. However, there continue to be some deeds that are the purest forms of generosity – organ donation, for instance. While donating a kidney or a part of the liver can be done when a patient is alive, some forms can be executed only after death. Such procedures are known as Cadaver Transplants. This Organ Donation Day, when the world celebrates the spirit of kindness, Dr Sanjay Gogoi - HOD And Consultant – Urology, HCMCT Manipal Hospitals, helps us with some information on Cadaver Transplants.
