Interventional Oncology in Dhakuria

Interventional oncology is now considered the fourth pillar of oncology. This is a fast-growing field where minimally invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures are performed.  Some common IR procedures in oncology include :

  • Transarterial Chemoembolisation (TACE): The procedure involves delivering chemotherapy directly to the liver tumour through a catheter placed in the hepatic artery.

  • Transarterial Radioembolisation (TARE): The procedure involves injecting tiny beads containing radioactive material through a catheter.

  • Portal vein embolization: The blood flow is selectively stopped to one of the liver lobes by embolizing the right or left portal vein.

  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and  Microwave Ablation (MWA): Ablation procedures are usually performed for liver tumours and benign bone lesions.

  • Biopsy of all tumours
