The liver is a large, meaty organ located on the right side of the abdomen. All the blood that leaves the stomach and intestines passes through the liver and is detoxified.

Often, symptoms of liver diseases and disorders do not appear until the problem has progressed. Maintaining a healthy weight

If the person is obsessed with weight or even slightly overweight, they are at risk of developing a fatty liver, which can lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), one of the most rapidly growing types of liver disease. Weight loss can play an important role in reducing liver fat.

Follow a well-balanced diet

Consume a well-balanced diet, avoiding high-calorie meals, saturated fat, refined carbohydrates (such as white bread, white rice, and regular pasta), and sugars. One should not consume raw or undercooked shellfish. Intake of fibre for a balanced diet, which one can get from fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain bread, rice, and cereals is recommended. Consumption of meat (but limit red meat), dairy (low-fat milk and small amounts of cheese), and fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats found in vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, and fish) are recommended. Drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated is also recommended.

Regular exercise

Regular exercise aids in the burning of triglycerides for fuel and the reduction of liver fat.

Avoiding toxins

Liver cells are harmed by toxins. Toxins from cleaning and aerosol products, insecticides, chemicals, and additives should be avoided in direct contact. When using aerosols, one should make sure the room is well-ventilated and that the individual wears a mask. Smoking should be prohibited.

Drinking alcohol with caution

Alcoholic beverages can cause a variety of health problems. They can cause liver cell damage or destruction, as well as scarring. One should consult their doctor about the appropriate amount of alcohol for them. A doctor may recommend drinking alcohol in moderation or abstaining entirely.

Avoiding the use of illicit drugs

Marijuana/hashish, cocaine (including crack), heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription-type psychotherapeutics (pain relievers, tranquillizers, stimulants, and sedatives) are examples of illicit drugs that should be avoided.

Avoid using contaminated needles

Dirty needles are associated with more than just intravenous drug use. Following any type of skin penetration involving sharp instruments or needles, one should consult a doctor and seek testing. Though uncommon, unsafe injection practices may occur in a hospital setting and require immediate attention. In addition, using only clean needles for tattoos and body piercings is recommended.

Getting immediate medical care in case the person is exposed to blood

If anyone comes into contact with someone else's blood, they should contact a doctor right away. One may also visit the emergency department of a nearby hospital immediately.

Restriction on sharing personal hygiene items

One should never share personal hygiene items such as razors, toothbrushes, and nail clippers as they might carry even a negligible amount of blood or other body fluids that can be contaminated.

Practising safe sex

Unprotected sex or sex with multiple partners raises the risk of contracting hepatitis B and C.

Washing hands regularly

After using the restroom, changing a diaper, and before preparing or eating food, one should use soap and warm water.

Following medication instructions

When people take medications incorrectly, whether by taking too much, the wrong type, or mixing medications, the liver can suffer. Even if they are not taken at the same time, one should never combine alcohol with other drugs or medications. Informing the doctor about any OTC medications, supplements, or natural or herbal remedies being used is advised.

Getting vaccinated

Hepatitis A and B vaccines are available. Unfortunately, there is no vaccine available to protect against the hepatitis C virus.
