Pre Procedure

A low fibre diet should be consumed before the procedure. Additionally, the intake of meat, vegetables, seafood, fruits and green leafy vegetables should be avoided for at least a day before the procedure.
The doctor will prescribe pre-medications before the procedure.

During Procedure

A hospital gown will be given to the patient and they will be moved to a separate room.
Dentures, contact lenses and eye glasses must be removed.
A colonoscope will be inserted by the doctor inside the anus of the patient and passed towards the colon through the rectum.
Bloating and abdominal cramping may occur because of pressure from the air that has been introduced into the colon.
The doctor may collect a few tissue samples for more in-depth analysis.

Post Procedure

The patient will be observed for 30 minutes after the procedure.
The patient must bring a companion with them as they may experience difficulty in performing routine activities, such as walking and driving, after the procedure due to the effects of sedatives.
