Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the digestive tract and can cause abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight loss and fatigue. Crohn’s disease occurs throughout the gastrointestinal tract, but most commonly, it affects the end of the small intestine (the ileum) or the beginning of the large intestine (the colon).
Crohn's disease may be treated with medications to suppress inflammation. Crohn’s disease treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore is used to treat Crohn's disease when medical management fails or if there are complications such as obstruction or perforation.
The cause of Crohn's disease is unknown. Recent research suggests that the immune system plays a role in causing inflammation, but the exact cause remains unknown.
Surgical Procedure
The goal of surgery for Crohn's disease is to remove all inflamed areas of the intestines, which may include,
Removing diseased portions of the bowel — This surgery is called resection surgery. It can be performed endoscopically (using small instruments inserted into the body through small incisions) or through open surgery with more extensive incisions in your abdomen. If you have had this type of surgery before, you will probably have it again if your symptoms recur in another part of your intestines.
Removing infected tissue — This procedure is called debridement. It involves removing dead tissue from an area where active infection occurred to prevent the further spread of disease and reduce pain.
Stitching up the wound — After surgery, your surgeon will stitch up your incisions and remove any tubes used during the operation.
Once awake, you will be transferred to a recovery room, where nurses will monitor your vital signs and ensure you are comfortable. You might need to stay in the hospital for two days after surgery if you have an abdominal operation.
You must take it easy and avoid strenuous activity for several weeks after surgery. After a few days, your doctor will examine your wounds to see how they heal. If everything looks good, then you can go home.
If you have a wound that is slow to heal or drains fluid, you may need to stay in the hospital for an extra day. You will also need to return for regular follow-up visits so your doctor can examine your incisions and ensure they are healing correctly. If all goes well, you should be able to go home after a few days.
Alternative ways
Most Crohn's disease sufferers occasionally need to take steroids (like prednisolone). Steroid medications typically start to work after a few days or weeks and can reduce symptoms by lowering inflammation in your digestive tract. They are frequently administered as injections but are typically taken as tablets once daily.
