Pseudo Gout Treatment

Pseudo gout is a disease caused by the collection of Calcium pyrophosphate crystals in the body's joints. The crystals get deposited within the synovial fluid og the joints, leading to extreme pains and inflammation. The treatment of Pseudo gout is done in the following ways.

1) Draining the synovial fluid from the joints is one of te most practical ways of dealing with the disease. The doctor removes the synovial liquid built up within the affected joints. The name for this treatment is Joint aspiration or arthrocentesis, performed only by a trained orthopaedic surgeon. The procedure is carried out as follows,

  • The doctor first treats the area to be drained with local anaesthesia.

  • Fluoroscopy or ultrasound is used at the affected site to supervise the procedure being performed by the doctor. The projected image guides the doctor into directing the needle into the right place within the joint.

  • The doctor then inserts an injection into the swollen joint and the synovial fluid.

  • The fluid is drawn out with the syringe until the swelling decreases considerably.

  • The doctor may use multiple syringes to complete the task.

  • Once the joint is drained, the doctor pumps medication into the same joint at the same site.

  • The doctor then bandages the entry point of the needle.

2) Anti-inflammatory drugs

These are one of the easiest ways to deal with the disease till the swelling settles. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the drugs of choice prescribed to the patient. These include drugs like Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Naproxen, etc. Certain patients are on medication with other drugs for illnesses like kidney disorders, bleeding problems, heart diseases, etc. These patients under management of gout and pseudogout treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore are usually prescribed other drugs like Corticosteroids, which may be directly injected into the site or taken orally.

3) Surgery for joint replacement

The ultimate form of treating the disease is by replacing the joint with a plastic or metallic joint. This helps reduce the fluid buildup and, ultimately, the pain ans

swelling associated with the illness. The affected joint may also be repaired to treat the disease.
