Vestibular Rehabilitation: Treatments & Procedures | Manipal Hospitals Jayanagar

Vestibular rehabilitation is a particular type of movement and balance therapy that assists in treating dizziness and vertigo caused by changes in vestibular dysfunction. It is a program designed to recondition your brain if you suffer from recurring dizziness, unsteadiness, or motion sensitivity. It begins with an evaluation of the underlying vestibular deficits. We use gaze stabilization and habituation therapy to desensitize your vestibular system, which helps reduce vertigo symptoms and improve balance coordination.

Balance training is necessary for postural control and proprioception, which in turn increase stability. Strengthening the neck and core muscles also improves balance and reduces falls. Positional manoeuvres (e.g., the Epley manoeuvre for treating BPPV) used in vestibular rehabilitation involve moving out-of-place inner ear crystals and removing vertigo. Vestibular therapy restores self-confidence and movement by systematically developing tolerance to motion and visual stimuli.
