Accident and Emergency Care Services in Kharadi Pune

An accident is any unforeseen or unplanned circumstance that is a mishap and has a negative outcome. While most minor accidents are not life-threatening, a lot of major accidents happen around us every day. The most common types of accidents involve automobile and road accidents, sports-related accidents, fall injuries or fire accidents. It is important to understand the emergency services and emergency management required during an accident, for the victim. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) aims at providing acute medical care to the victim, either in the emergency room or outside the hospital.

The critical care of victims, who have suffered injuries during the accident (e.g. road accident), is handled by the accident and emergency department (A&E department) of the hospital. Paramedics who work in the accident and emergency department are deployed to help the victim at the site of the accident. They provide the accident victims with emergency medical services, ambulance services and provide transport to the emergency room.

Department of Accident and Emergency Services

The accident and emergency department provides emergency medical services to patients who may suffer from cardiac arrests, trauma, mental illness, asthma and heart attacks. During road accidents or fall, the victim may experience trauma due to multiple injuries in different organs. It is necessary for trained professionals to handle this with care.

Major trauma is a term used for people with multiple injuries. It is initially treated in the emergency department but later handled by a specialized trauma department. A trauma team, which is trained in the principles of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), takes over the treatment of the victim.

Emergency services provided in the accident and emergency department to road accidents and other accident victims may vary from simple x-rays and setting of broken bones to activating a full-fledged trauma care team to take over management of the patient care. If critical care is provided within the critical time frame “golden hour”, chances of survival of the patient are greatly improved.

What types of emergencies are handled by the accident and emergency department?
