Wisdom Tooth Pain Treatment in Mangalore

The third set of molars in the mouth from the back are called wisdom teeth. These teeth start to migrate up through the jawbone between the ages of 17 and 25, eventually breaking through the gum tissue to become a part of the chewing system.

Wisdom teeth frequently erupt from the gums at an angle, too closely to neighbouring teeth, partly, or not at all. Molars that are only partially exposed provide space for food particles and bacterial growth. Unfortunately, any of these conditions could result in wisdom tooth pain. Wisdom teeth can occasionally be painful. The removal of the wisdom tooth may be advised by the dentist or oral surgeon.

Wisdom Tooth Pain

Wisdom teeth are known as impacted teeth since they frequently cannot fully erupt into the mouth. Sometimes they are unable to penetrate the gums. According to estimates, 70% of adults have at least one impacted wisdom tooth. A wisdom tooth may damage the neighbouring teeth. In some individuals, cysts may form around the wisdom teeth. Furthermore, its cleaning is more difficult due to its position, which may contribute to poor dental hygiene.

Any of these issues could prompt the dentist or physician to advise having a wisdom tooth extracted. Meanwhile, the pain can be actively controlled until the patient waits for the surgery.

Cause of Wisdom Tooth Pain

People belonging to the age group of 17-25 years have wisdom teeth erupting through the gums. It might hurt when a tooth starts to protrude through the gums. Additionally, because the adult teeth have grown in, the wisdom teeth frequently have no room in a person's mouth. The wisdom tooth may erupt partially, at an angle, or get lodged and not fully emerge due to the limitation of space in the mouth. This condition exposes the gums to damage as the gums tear but the teeth do not fully emerge. Food and microorganisms can become trapped in the gums and cause various issues, including:

  • Gum diseases

  • Infections

  • Abscesses

  • Cysts

Home Care for Wisdom Tooth Pain

The only long-term answer for treating wisdom tooth pain is to arrange their removal at the dentist, although this is not always possible right away. Here are some home remedies that could help the individual feel better while they wait for their dentist to remove their wisdom tooth.

  • Saltwater Rinse

This is one of the simplest and most efficient treatments for wisdom tooth pain. Killing harmful oral bacteria and promoting healthy gums are achieved by swishing warm salt water around the teeth. When wisdom teeth erupt, they can occasionally cause cysts or harm the teeth around them. Rinsing with saltwater helps keep the mouth free from harmful bacteria.

  • Cold and Heat Therapy

Our cheeks can benefit from an ice pack application to help minimize swelling and pain. Additionally, the numbing effects of cold might lessen discomfort. Heat therapy helps in the healing process by reducing stress and boosting blood flow. Depending on the process that provides relief, one can apply either cold or heat therapy. Hot and cold treatments are sometimes alternated. Appling hot or cold to the area for several minutes at a time is recommended.

Prevention of Wisdom Tooth Pain

The wisdom tooth is harder than normal teeth, making it more susceptible to cavities. When an individual’s wisdom tooth emerges, they can take some precautionary steps to reduce the likelihood of gum infection. These steps include:

  • Brushing teeth twice a day, flossing, and using mouthwash can help minimise the germs in the mouth that cause illnesses.

  • Flushing food and bacteria from the teeth and gums by drinking lots of water.

  • Avoid sugary foods since they can stick to the gums and encourage the growth of bacteria.
