Overview:
Paronychia nail infection is a tender fungal or bacterial nail infection of the feet or the hand. It occurs where the skin and nail meet either at the base or side of the toe or finger nail. Doctors generally recommend a minor procedure, which takes around 10-15 minutes depending on the severity of the infection. It involves the application of betadine solution for cleaning the infected area around the nails which is followed by the administration of local anaesthesia. A cruciate incision or stab is then made by the doctor in the infected area and the pus is drained to alleviate discomfort and enable faster healing. After the completion of the procedure, pain killers and antibiotics are prescribed. In addition, the patient will have to come to the hospital for dressing at regular intervals as per the instructions of the doctor.
