Overview:
Sebaceous cysts are painless, small, non-cancerous, slow-growing lumps in the skin. They are mainly found on the neck, face or torso and contain liquid or semi-liquid materials. A simple surgical procedure is recommended for removing these cysts. The procedure generally takes around 10-15 minutes depending on the type and size of the cyst. The procedure involves the administration of local anaesthesia by the doctor who then makes an incision at the site and removes the cyst from the underlying tissue. The cyst is sent to a laboratory for a biopsy. The patient will be asked to come back to the hospital for dressing and suture removal.
After the completion of the procedure, the patient will be prescribed pain killers and antibiotics. A doctor should be immediately consulted if soakage or bleeding occurs at the site.
