Dr Sudarshan Ballal said, I think it is a phenomenal move by the government to provide free vaccines to 160 crore plus jabs and now the precautionary dose as well. I do agree that some more availability of vaccines in the private sector for boosters needs to go in parallel with the free vaccination done by the government he added.

Dr Sudarshan Ballal Our initial concern was regarding the vaccine hesitancy, the availability of vaccines across India and its rollout. But we had come out of all such concerns very well. I think now, our primary goal should be to vaccinate people with their second dose as soon as possible and then ensure the precautionary dose is given to those eligible.

Dr Sudarshan Ballal The COVID pandemic has undoubtedly highlighted the importance of a robust healthcare system in the country and has shown the world that you are only as strong as your healthcare systems. This has made healthcare a priority as was seen in last year's budget, where a lot of emphasis and expenditure was devoted to healthcare.

Dr Sudarshan Ballal said, We are seeing now certainly the third wave in India mostly in the three cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore. Now, there are some stark differences between the previous waves and the current. In the first wave, a lot of healthcare workers were infected, many seriously and unfortunately lost their lives. In the second wave, healthcare workers were protected because of the lessons learned and vaccinations. In the third wave, what we are seeing is that healthcare workers are getting infected but not very sick.

Mr. Dilip Jose said The one thing to be noted is that the testing volume has certainly gone up in the last seven or eight days. We are doing maybe twice or maybe even two and a half times the number of tests that we were doing maybe a month ago. Basically, because more people are feeling symptomatic or there are concerns about the Omicron situation, there are more people are coming to the hospital to test.

Dr Sudarshan Ballal said I think this is a very pertinent question for the day. The numbers of COVID, mostly Omicron, are spreading like wildfire, and getting out of control. However, in my mind, lockdown needs to be the last resort and we need to change of strategy.

Mr. Dilip Jose said, The last two years were arguably the most testing times that the healthcare sector has ever faced. Even as we are now gearing up to face the onslaught of the third wave, it is also relevant to reflect on the learnings from the first two and weave those into the plans for the year ahead.

Mr. Sameer Agarwal said, The quickest thing to do is to provide capital at a lower cost because setting up a hospital is an expensive deal. Setting up a hospital requires 2.5 to 3 crore spending per bed, and there are a lot of laws that one has to comply with. There should be a single window provided to the health sector for setting up hospitals so that we don't need to go to multiple authorities for approvals,
