The appendix is a small, pouch-like organ attached to the large intestine. It carries bacteria. Appendicitis occurs when the appendix becomes blocked, inflamed, and swells. This may cause severe abdominal pain and can even lead to a ruptured appendix. If a ruptured appendix is not treated immediately, the bacteria can spread to the other organ, endangering a patient’s life. Laparoscopy is the most effective diagnostic and surgical procedure for detecting and surgically removing appendicitis.
Solutions of Laparoscopic Appendectomy
When your Gastroenterologist suspects appendicitis, s/he will run a series of tests to confirm the diagnosis. A laparoscopic surgery, a minimally access/invasive procedure that is safer, may be recommended by your surgeon based on the severity of the inflammation and your medical history. This has the added benefit of allowing doctors to assess the extent of the appendicitis and then cut it out to remove it.
During a laparoscopic appendectomy, the surgeon makes several small, key-hole-sized incisions in the abdomen and inserts a small, narrow tube called a cannula that inflates your abdomen with carbon dioxide gas. A laparoscope, a thin tube with a tiny camera and high-intensity light, is then inserted which allows the surgeon to view the appendix and surrounding organs on a monitor.
The surgeon then inserts small surgical instruments through the other incisions and removes the appendix.
For obese and elderly patients, laparoscopic surgery is often considered the best choice. It is less invasive than open appendectomy and usually results in a shorter hospital stay and a quicker recovery. However, open surgery might be advised if the appendix has ruptured.
Risks of Laparoscopic Appendectomy
Although there are no particular risks, the gas in your abdomen may cause some discomfort or pain in the tip of your shoulder.
Number of Cases
We have performed over 10 lakh laparoscopic appendectomies in all age groups with a high success rate to date.
Infection Control Protocol
We ensure our patients are safe from any infections that may arise during their short hospital stay. Your comfort and infection protection is guaranteed by our stringent infection control procedures.
When non-invasive methods fail to diagnose a condition, minimally invasive procedures are used. These surgeries are performed through small incisions, increasing postoperative patient recovery, reducing blood loss and pain, and significantly improving cosmesis.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometriosis, ectopic pregnancies, ovarian cysts, fibroids, female infertility, undescended testicles, appendicitis, unexplained abdominal pain, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, bile duct cancer, and gallbladder cancer are among the conditions that can be diagnosed through minimally access procedures like Laparoscopy.
