Levels of Trauma Care Centre

While the US recognises five levels of trauma centres, India currently has three levels of trauma centres to accommodate a wide range of traumatically injured patients. 

  • Level 1 Trauma Centres

Smaller than level 1 and level 2 centres, level 3 trauma centre provides prompt care to traumatically injured patients. These centres increase the chances of survival of trauma patients by stabilising them to transfer to a higher-level trauma centre. These level 3 centres also provide 24 hr coverage, timely assessment, resuscitation, surgery, stabilisation of injured patients, intensive care and emergency care. Emergency medicine physicians, general surgeons and anaesthesiologists provide immediate assistance in level 3 centres.  

Three trauma centre levels are widely seen in India.
