Did you know? Heart failure can be deadlier than cancer if not treated properly and timely. Heart failure, not to be confused with the name, is the heart’s inability to pump enough oxygen-rich blood to meet the body’s daily requirements. Without adequate blood flow caused by the heart’s failure, all vital organs in the body may not work, typically causing severe complications. Heart failure does not translate to the heart being about to stop beating or has already stopped; instead, it means that the heart is not working usually as it should. Heart failure or congestive heart failure is a long-term condition which requires proper care, diagnosis and treatment if necessary. Book an appointment to have the best treatment.
Symptoms
Common symptoms of heart failure might include:
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Weight gain
Dry Coughing
Nausea
Swelling in the veins of the neck
Frequent urination
Heart palpitations (irregular heartbeats)
Heart failure symptoms can range from mild to severe based on the patient’s medical history and other factors. Sometimes, these symptoms never show up, causing you to believe there is nothing wrong with your heart. Early diagnosis and treatment play a vital role in the prevention of heart failure as it can get worse with time. Almost 5% of heart failure patients are estimated to opt for late diagnosis leading to severe complications. Talk to your healthcare expert in case of the onset of these symptoms or head to Manipal Hospitals, Mysore for the best cardiac healthcare services.

Giving priority to a healthy and balanced diet, regular exercise, and weight control can prevent heart failure. Though some of the above causes cannot be controlled, patients should focus on the controllable causes for a healthy heart. Visit our cardiology hospital in Mysore for the best treatment.
Heart failure stages
Stage A
Pre-heart failure stage, where the patient is at high risk of heart failure due to various medical conditions.
Stage B
Actual pre-heart failure. The patient never showed symptoms but was diagnosed with systolic left ventricular dysfunction. Stage B heart failure patients show an ejection fraction (EF) of 40% or less.
Stage C
Currently or previously, the patient has shown symptoms and has a heart failure diagnosis.
Stage D
The final stage of heart failure. Patients here show advanced symptoms that are unresponsive to treatment.
Diagnosis
Your cardiologist could recommend a heart failure diagnosis if you showed any likely symptoms. Also, based on your medical history, the diagnosis is suggested accordingly. Following the physical examination, the patient is recommended diagnostic and imaging tests such as blood tests, MRI, Echo, ECG, BNP blood test, chest X-ray, stress test, etc. According to the diagnostic reports, your doctor may recommend further courses of action. Your doctor also examines any heart failure signs that may cause heart muscles to weaken.
Treatment
Heart failure is commonly classified into left-sided and right-sided heart failure. Personalised treatment is provided to every patient based on their medical history and medications. Your doctor will suggest the best treatment plan for your current stage to slow down the progression of heart failure. There’s no going back to heart failure as it gets worse with time, and treatment helps patients to decrease the speed of heart failure. Four treatment stages are recommended as follows:
Stage A Treatment
Healthy diet plan, regular exercise, and avoidance of drugs are suggested here.
Stage B Treatment
Along with the stage A treatment, certain medications are given. Surgery is recommended if necessary.
Stage C Treatment
Combined with stage A and stage B treatments, advanced medications and possible surgery and therapy are seen here.
Stage D Treatment
All the stages A, B and C treatments are included here. Advanced treatment options such as heart transplant, surgery, continuous infusion of intravenous inotropic drugs, research therapies, etc., are also suggested.
Manipal Organ Sharing and transplant (MOST) increases the awareness of organ and tissue donation. The “MOST” initiative aims to decrease the gap between patients in need of organ transplants and the availability of organs. While 50,000 patients suffer from heart failure annually, only 200 transplants are performed in India.
