    Overview

  • Dr. Ankur obtained his graduation, post-graduation and super-specialisation degrees from premier institutes in the country. He was one of the first few DM super specialists in the field of Pediatric Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology in India. He worked as a senior consultant in the Allergy Immunology Unit at PGI Chandigarh for more than 6 years. He is an allergy, immunology & rheumatology expert at Manipal Hospital's Old Airport Road, Bangalore.

  • He holds an MBBS degree from SMS Medical College, Jaipur, followed by an MD in Paediatrics from the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. Further specialising in the field, he pursued a DM in Paediatric Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology from PGI, Chandigarh.

  • He brings his skills, experience, and compassion in managing allergic, immunological, and pediatric rheumatological disorders — including complex conditions like angioedema and urticaria — to provide a comprehensive management approach to his patients. Allergic, immunological, and pediatric rheumatological disorders are either misdiagnosed or diagnosed late in the course of the disease.

  • Dr. Ankur has conducted several awareness programmes on these diseases for physicians across India and several neighbouring countries. He is the leading authority on the diagnosis and management of urticaria and angioedema, not only in India but also in several Asia Pacific countries. At PGI Chandigarh, he was the director of the Angioedema Centre of Reference and Excellence — an affiliation that has been conferred to only 2 centres in India so far.

  • At PGI Chandigarh, he was an important part of the recognition of the Allergy Immunology Unit by several prestigious international organizations and was actively coordinating their activities. These included: the Centre of Excellence in Rheumatology, Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (CoE, APLAR, 2020-2023); WHO Collaborating Centre for Education, Research and Training in Pediatric Immunology (2022 - 2026); Indian Council of Medical Research Collaborating Centre of Excellence in Pediatric Immunology (2023-2028); Centre of Excellence, Asia Pacific Society for Immunodeficiencies (CoE, APSID, 2023-2026); Centre of Excellence, Asia Pacific Association of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (CoE, APAAACI).

  • Dr. Ankur has a passion for Clinical Allergy Immunology and pediatric rheumatology, especially Kawasaki disease, primary immunodeficiency diseases, arthritis, urticaria and angioedema. He has published extensively in his field with more than 215 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has also developed several important international collaborations with colleagues working on this subject.

  • Several prestigious awards were bestowed upon him by national and international organisations. Some of these include the Young PID Investigator Award by the International Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies (IPOPI); the National Award for Excellence in Academic Clinical Research Early Career Category by the Indian Society for Clinical Research Academic Consortium for Research in India; the Young Rheumatologist Oration by the Indian Rheumatology Association; the GP Talwar Young Scientist Award by the Indian Immunology Society; the ST Achar Endowment Award in Paediatrics by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and the Dr Arthur Saravanmuthu Thambiah Academic Award by the National Academy of Medical Sciences.

  • He holds several important positions in various national and international organisations. One of the most important of these positions is the steering committee member for the Angioedema Centre of Reference and Excellence (ACARE). So far, this recognition has only been awarded to 4 doctors across the globe. He was the joint secretary for the Indian Society of Kawasaki Disease (ISKD) (2020-2022) and is presently the research coordinator for the society.

  • His goal is to provide holistic care to patients with allergic, immunological, and pediatric rheumatological disorders, including angioedema and urticaria, to give them a near-normal quality of life and to prevent organ damage. His vision is to develop a Centre of Excellence in Immunology, Rheumatology, and Allergy that will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the diagnosis and management of these disorders, including the best bone marrow transplant facility for primary immunodeficiency diseases in the country.

  • Over 110 lectures delivered in several national conferences and over 20 lectures delivered in several international conferences.
  • Overview

He is the leading authority on the diagnosis and management of urticaria and angioedema, not only in India but also in several Asia Pacific countries.
