Why Cutting Screen Time on Social Media by Half Can Restore a Teen’s Body Image
Social media can expose users to hundreds or even thousands of images and photos every day, which leads to an internalization of beauty ideals that are unattainable for almost everyone. It can result in greater dissatisfaction with body weight and shape. Additionally, social media usage leads to an obsession with likes and comments, causing an upsurge in screen time and a drop in meaningful activities and interpersonal relationships. According to Dr Satish Kumar CR, Consultant, Clinical Psychology, Manipal Hospitals, reducing screen time by 50% can bring teens back to the actual world of perception, where body image is only one component and competence, personality, and skill are much more vital. This holistic view can influence a teen's sense of identity. Therefore, limiting mobile phone use in schools and households could assist teens in navigating a delicate period in their lives and setting genuine, rather than fictitious, priorities.

Multiple Truths of Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer that occurs from plasma cells in the bone marrow. According to Dr Mallikarjun Kalashetty, consultant - haematology, haematooncology and bone marrow transplantation, Manipal Hospital, there are several myths surrounding multiple myeloma, including the belief that it runs in families, which only applies to a small percentage of patients. Cancer can weaken bones and cause fractures, but diagnosing it is not difficult and can be proven with a bone marrow examination. Treatment for myeloma has improved significantly in recent years, with many patients surviving for many years and maintaining a good quality of life. While there is no cure for multiple myeloma yet, there are treatments available such as autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, to control cancer for a long time. Multiple myeloma is treated with chemo-immunotherapeutic agents, biological agents, and monoclonal antibodies. In the majority of cases, no surgical intervention is required.

Excessive salt consumption can kill millions by 2030, states the World Health Organization (WHO). India stands the highest risk compared to other Western countries like Europe, as we consume almost double the recommended amount of salt in our diets. Dr Ranjan Shetty, Interventional Cardiology, Manipal Hospitals, suggests that, as a society, it is essential to reduce salt intake. Too much salt consumption is one of the causes of cardiovascular diseases. The doctor strictly recommends against adding more salt to your food on the table and only going with the amount of salt the food is already cooked with. A maximum of 5gm of salt per day is what one should consume as part of a healthy intake.
