People With Low Haemoglobin Levels Might Suffer from HbH Thalassemia
HbH Thalassemia is a blood disorder caused by gene mutations in the body. The mutations in haemoglobin, which are present in the 16th chromosome of DNA, give rise to this disease. Hence, doctors suggest that couples with a family history do genetic testing before planning a family. However, as Dr Ashish Dixit, a Consultant in Haematology from Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, says, that, “For a child to inherit HbH, it is necessary for both parents to carry mutated genes. The presence of those genes in any one parent doesn’t create risk." He also says that people with low haemoglobin levels are likely to suffer from this disease. Hence, regular checkups, and awareness are necessary to fight this problem.

‘Virtually painless’ needle-free injections have seen a remarkable rise over the years, but they do have some clinical concerns
A new, cutting-edge method called Needle-Free Injection Technology (NFIT) uses the skin to deliver medications instead of hypodermic needles. The device is regarded as a painless substitute for conventional injections and has produced encouraging results in mass vaccination and immunisation programmes. Here Dr Bhaskar Shenoy, HOD & consultant – Paediatrics, Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road further elaborates how the doctors administer the medication here without using a needle, either directly under the skin or into the skin itself. High-pressure technologies are employed to introduce the medication into the body because of the difference in technology.

What Happens When Uric Acid Increases in Your Body?
Uric acid, the most significant antioxidant present in human bodily fluids, is a critical waste product. Elevated uric levels can occur often due to impaired kidney function and the use of medications such as diuretics. In addition to kidney stones and chronic renal illness, excessive uric acid levels can result in other issues such as crystals forming in the joints, causing gout. Doctors advise having frequent medical check-ups including a blood test every six months, to help the doctor identify and diagnose any concerns.
