Bronchoscopies
Bronchoscopy is a procedure to view the airways and the lungs. A thin tube called a bronchoscope is passed through the nose or mouth, down the throat into the lungs to view the images of the lungs, voice box, large airways, and even the smaller branches of the bronchi.
Why bronchoscopy is used?
Bronchoscopy is used to treat different lung disorders like:
Remove lesions
Remove foreign objects
Remove blood clots or large amounts of secretions.
Control bleeding
To perform a lung biopsy
Airway obstruction
Placing a small tube called a stent to keep an airway open
Post bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy is a relatively painless procedure with faster recovery.
Post-surgery the person may have to remain in the hospital for a few hours till the blood pressure and other vitals are back to normal.
The person should regain the ability to cough within two hours and should be able to eat and drink.
Post-surgery the person should avoid driving and consuming alcohol as they will be sedated during the procedure.
