Fluoroscopy is a medical imaging process that employs numerous pulses (short bursts) of an X-ray beam to display organs and tissues on a computer screen in real time. Standard X-rays are analogous to pictures, whereas fluoroscopy is analogous to video. Fluoroscopy is used by healthcare personnel for diagnostics and interventional guidance, such as surgeries and catheter placements. Fluoroscopy allows doctors to examine numerous internal systems in real-time, including the cardiovascular, urinary, digestive, muscular, and reproductive systems.
How is Fluoroscopic Imaging Done?
During the Fluoroscopic Imaging examination, a contrast material is injected by swallowing, enema, or intravenous (IV) line.
The patient lies on a table for an X-ray and has to move his body in specific directions or needs to hold his breath during the procedure.
Fluoroscopic pictures are captured using an X-ray machine and offer a view of the affected area of the body.
In some cases, the detection of potential pain, discomfort, or unpleasantness associated with the diagnostic procedure is generally managed using local anaesthetic or conscious sedation.
Finally, the contrast material is withdrawn, and the patient receives post-procedural care instructions based on the type of fluoroscopy performed.
