Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) involves the use of a hollow, thin needle for removing cell samples from tissues, lumps or fluids from an organ. This is generally performed to determine the type of cells inside a lump usually found in the gland in the neck (like a thyroid gland) or breast. This procedure helps doctors detect cancer. During the procedure, the doctor uses a syringe to enable the suction of some of the cells into the needle. A scanning device is also used sometimes for guiding the needle to the right location, especially if the lump is small in size. The procedure usually takes a few minutes, after which, the needle will be removed. The doctor may then apply some pressure to stop bleeding. After the completion of the procedure, the patient can resume their routine activities. If you are looking for general surgery treatment in Vijayawada, visit Manipal Hospitals.
