Kidney Biopsy In Vijayawada

A kidney biopsy in Vijayawada is an invasive test and a highly complex procedure that needs to be carefully performed only by a nephrologist. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and involves the examination of a small piece of the kidney under a microscope. It is done either on a transplanted kidney (graft biopsy) or a native kidney.

Why is a Kidney Biopsy Recommended?

A kidney biopsy is recommended by a nephrologist:

  • To diagnose kidney diseases

  • To determine the severity of a kidney disease

  • If the kidney transplant is not operating correctly, yields negative blood results or the proteinuria contains a large amount of protein

  • If the patient gets diagnosed with renal disease or glomerular damage with no apparent cause

How is a Kidney Biopsy Performed?

A kidney biopsy involves the creation of a small incision in the patient’s back and the removal of small specimens of kidney tissue with the help of a thin, hollow needle. The patient will be conscious during the procedure but the site of operation will be sedated so that the patient doesn’t experience unbearable pain. In addition, a laparoscopic biopsy may be suggested if any bleeding issues or blood clot problems arise or if the patient has only one kidney. In some instances, the nephrologist might employ the use of a laparoscope for checking for bleeding and stop it if necessary.
