Diabetes And Coffee: Should Diabetics Completely Avoid Coffee?
Coffee is a popular beverage consumed by many people every day. However, for those with diabetes, it can be challenging to know if coffee is safe to drink. According to Pavithra N Raj, the chief dietician at Manipal Hospital, Coffee, as an inhibitory agent, may reduce your insulin sensitivity. It inhibits the adenosine protein. Adenosine has a significant impact on how much insulin the body produces. It can prevent heart disease, stroke, and cancer. However, caffeine may increase blood sugar levels, so people with diabetes should limit their intake to one or two cups a day without adding sugar. It is recommended that patients with type-2 diabetes can replace coffee with other healthy drinks, including buttermilk, lime juice without sugar, clear soups, vegetable juice like cucumber mint, and green smoothies.

Dr. Shafalika SB, consultant, minimally invasive gynaecology, Manipal Hospital, mentioned that both benign or malignant tumours could develop during pregnancies, although it is a rare occurrence. Dr. Shafalika said these tumours sometimes cause abdominal pain when complications like degenerative changes in fibroids and torsions in ovarian tumours occur. If a cancerous tumour develops during pregnancy and is in the initial stages, the woman is allowed to complete the pregnancy and then treated immediately after. In case it has reached a later stage, it is advisable to terminate the pregnancy and start treatment. One of the major causes of these tumours is predisposing genetic factors aggravated by hormonal changes during pregnancy.

HPV infection is the primary cause of cervical cancer in 99% of cases, and this is the only vaccine that is available for preventing cervical cancer.
HPV is a type of virus that is mainly transmitted through sexual contact. There are two kinds of HPV infections; one is a high-risk HPV, and the other is a low-risk HPV. Whenever there is a persistent high-risk HPV infection, there is a higher risk of developing cervical cancer in women. Hence, it is important to understand the importance of knowing about HPV infection and creating awareness about that as well.
It is a common infection that a woman can contract at any time in her life, but her body has natural immunity to combat the virus. So, when HPV enters a woman’s body, the body naturally fights the virus and protects it from infection. When antibodies are produced against any infection, they are not permanent; hence, the woman may be susceptible to another type of infection. Whenever we take the vaccine, the antibodies produced by the vaccine are more long-lasting, and that is how they prevent further infection as well as cervical cancer. Hence, it is commonly considered as the best preventive measure. Aside from that, using a barrier contraception such as a condom during intercourse is also advised.
