Eye care hospital in Yeshwanthpur, Bangalore

The retina is the innermost layer of the eye that is responsible for vision. It is a thin sheet of nerve tissue that lines the back of the eye and converts light into electrical signals that are sent to the brain. The retina contains two types of light-sensitive cells, rods, and cones, which are responsible for night vision and colour vision, respectively. Rods are more sensitive to light than cones and are responsible for black-and-white vision. There are about 120 million rods in the human retina. Cones are less sensitive to light than rods but are responsible for colour vision. There are about 6 million cones in the human retina. The retina also contains two types of nerve cells, bipolar cells, and ganglion cells. Bipolar cells receive input from the rods and cones and send electrical signals to the ganglion cells. Ganglion cells send electrical signals from the eye to the brain. The retina has a high concentration of blood vessels, which makes it susceptible to damage from diabetes and other diseases. Treatment for retina diseases often includes injections of drugs into the eyeball.

Pre-Procedure

The pre-procedure for the medical retina includes a few tests and evaluations. The first step is to have a comprehensive eye exam which will allow the ophthalmologist to rule out other causes of vision problems and to get a better understanding of the overall health of the eye. After the comprehensive eye exam, the next step is usually to have an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scan. This scan provides detailed cross-sectional images of the retina and can help to identify any areas of concern. Once the OCT scan is complete, the ophthalmologist will perform a few more tests and evaluations before moving on to the actual procedure. These additional tests and evaluations may include a fluorescein angiogram, visual field test, and/or Amsler grid test.

Procedure

The medical retina is the branch of ophthalmology that manages disorders of the retina. The retina is the light-delicate tissue at the back of the eye that changes over light into nerve signals that are sent to the cerebrum. In a sound eye, these nerve signals are sent in an orderly design and produce a sharp picture. Medical retina specialists treat a wide scope of retinal issues utilising the most recent advances. The primary step in treating a retinal issue is an exhaustive eye exam. This may incorporate a visual examination, in which the specialist looks at the eye with an amplifying glass, just as a careful eye exam, in which the specialist utilises an amplified light and miniaturised scale devices to examine the structures inside the eye.

Once a diagnosis has been made, the specialist will plan a treatment that is directly for the patient's particular condition. Retinal issues can be caused by a wide range of things, including diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and age-related macular degeneration. Treatment for retinal issues may incorporate drugs, laser surgery, and, in extraordinary cases, surgery. Book an appointment for the best treatment and care for your eye.

Post-Procedure

The post-procedure for the medical retina involves a few simple steps. First, the patient will need to remove any bandages or dressings that were applied during the procedure. Next, the patient will need to gently clean the area around the eye with a mild soap and water solution. Finally, the patient will need to apply a sterile gauze pad or bandage to the area and secure it in place with tape. Visit Manipal Hospitals for medical retina treatment in Bangalore.
